As the Colorado Rockies return home for a weeklong stand at Coors Field, they are riding yet another losing streak, and are steaming towards possibly one of the worst seasons in Major League Baseball history.
That’s not set in stone as of yet, and the Rockies can certainly right the ship. But, they would need several players to really get going, and so far that’s just not happening.
Yes, the Rockies may be young, they may have injuries piling up, and, they have one of the smaller payrolls in baseball, but, they still need the players on the roster to perform every night, and there are a few players who just aren’t doing that.
Here’s three players who are currently struggling to the point, they are hindering Colorado’s progress at this point.
Michael Toglia
Every time it seems like Toglia might start to catch fire, he takes steps back. Colorado was hoping Toglia would hit 30-40 homers and drive in 100 runs this season. Instead, Toglia is batting .197 with three homers and 13 RBIs. In 117 at-bats this season, he’s struck out 48 times. For an everyday first basemen and a player that’s supposed to be on the rise, those numbers are unacceptable, and the Rockies can’t possibly succeed with Toglia hitting like this.
Hunter Goodman has been the best performing player for the Rockies in the first month (give or take) of the 2025 season.

Ryan McMahon
Like Toglia, McMahon is supposed to be an offensive weapon. Instead, he’s on his way to a second straight disappointing season. He’s hitting .185 with just three homers and a .287 OBP. So, no matter how good his glove is, if McMahon can’t get going, he isn’t helping the Rockies, at all.
German Marquez
Excited to get Marquez healthy this spring, hopes were high. It’s gone the exact opposite. Marquez is currently 0-6 on the season with a 9.97 ERA. He has just 18 strikeouts and has been lifted after four innings four times already this season. Marquez is supposed to be the star of Colorado’s pitching staff, but, right now, he has the worst numbers of anyone in the rotation, and that’s dragging Colorado down.
