There's no reason for this player to still be on the Rockies' roster

Getting rid of Bud Black might have been a move that everybody saw coming. When a team is playing as bad as there Colorado Rockies are, changes like the firing of Black was inevitible.

Yet, Black isn’t alone when it comes to personnel changes, and players aren’t exempt from change either.

And up and down the Colorado Rockies’ roster right now, there’s plenty of players who aren’t really doing much to help the Rockies get better, let alone turn things around.

One of those players is outfielder Sean Bouchard. With all due respect to Bouchard, who is 28 years old, the Rockies’ outfield is crowded, and it’s even more so at the Minor League level.

In a season in which almost everybody is struggling, Bouchard is no exception, and he’s earned very little playing team anyway.

Thus far, Bouchard is hitting just .153 with one homer and seven RBIs. He’s the fourth outfielder on the roster, and as a career .229 hitter in four seasons with Colorado, he’s shown little in the way of production at the plate.

So it was an interesting move when Bouchard made the Major League roster again, while the Rockies chose to trade away Nolan Jones. Even then though, trust in Bouchard was less then obvious since the Rockies immediately signed Mickey Moniak, after signing Nick Martini in the offseason.

Yes, it seemed from the get-go this year that plans for Bouchard were unclear.

Add to that the fact that many of Colorado’s top prospects, Charlie Condon, Zac Veen and Yanquiel Fernandez to name a few are also outfielders, it seems silly to keep Bouchard around.

Sure, Bouchard is somewhat of a veteran. He has experience at the big league level. But, over the course of four seasons in Colorado, Bouchard has barely produced, and with so many young players behind him, and with Colorado in nothing to lose mode now, there’s really no reason to keep Bouchard any longer.

It just doesn’t make sense.
