Denver is a sports city. And win or lose, the Colorado Rockies are a big part of the sport’s culture in the Mile High City.

And so, it would be fitting if the Rockies can produce a victory on the 30th anniversary of the opening of Coors Field. That day will be Saturday when the Rockies host the Cincinnati Reds for a day-game full of fun and festive celebrating at Coors Field.

However, it’s not the only reason Saturday will be a huge day for Denver.

The Rockies will share the spotlight on Saturday with the Colorado Avalanche, who will play Game Four of the NHL Playoffs First Round. The Avalanche are locked in a tight battle with arch rival Dallas, and Game Four will be a big one Saturday night at Ball Arena.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Denver Nuggets will be playing the Clippers in Los Angeles in Game Four of the NBA Playoffs First Round.

Yes, Saturday is why everybody loves Denver. There is so much meaningful sports happening at once. And it all starts with the Rockies and the 30th Anniversary Celebration. The first pitch will be at 1:10 p.m. and here’s hoping the fans will come out to not only support the Rox, but honor Coors Field, which is now one of the older ballparks in baseball.

And if the Rockies can pull off a win over the Reds, hopefully it will spawn a special day in Denver, in which the Nuggets and Avs find success, too.

No matter what though, Saturday will be a big one downtown. It’s one of those days that reminds us all why Denver’s sporting scene is so special. And the Rockies, no matter the state of the team, are, and will always be a huge part of that sports scene.
