The Colorado Rockies had their chance on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Instead, it was the same old story.

Leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 11th inning Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs, the Rockies were just three outs away from a rare road win. Instead, the Cubs rallied and ended the game with Michael Busch driving in a run to tie the game and rookie Matt Shaw bringing in the game-winning, walk-off run off of reliever Tyler Kinley.

The loss was Colorado’s 46th of the season and the Rockies’ 21st straight series loss. It could have been avoided through as Brenton Doyle put the Rockies ahead 3-2 in their half of the 11th, and Kinley had been solid as of late, but it wasn’t to be as the Rockies wasted an excellent start for the second straight game in Chicago.

German Marquez, who is winless on the season, six innings if 2-run ball while striking out six. Colorado’s bullpen also held up until Kinley’s troubles late in the 11th. Hunter Goofman and Doyle were great at the plate, including Doyle hitting a homer in the seventh. But overall, the Rockies struck out eight times and were just 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

The Rockies will try to salvage a win at Wrigley when they meet the Cubs again Wednesday night. The game starts at 6:10 p.m. M.D.T. as Tanner Gordon makes his second start in place of the injured Chase Dollander. The Rockies then move on to face the New York Mets Friday-Sunday at Citi Field in New York.
