It’s a heatwave in the desert. At the same time, the Colorado Rockies are on fire.
After a thrilling first weekend of Cactus League games, the Rockies began a new week with their bats going crazy as they crushed 15 hits in a spring training win over the Chicago White Sox Monday at Salt River Fields.
The Rockies have been a hitting machine so far this spring, and guess who got into the act on Monday? Kris Bryant hit a 462-foot two-run homer in the fourth inning of Monday’s game, yet another sign that he’s in a great place as March arrives.

And while Bryant took the mantle for the veterans in Monday’s 14-run outburst, the youngsters got in on the action, too. While much if the Rockies’ projected lineup started the game, it was Cole Carrigg who smashed three-run homer run in the eighth inning. Carrigg had his second multi-hit game of the spring, as he also doubled and drove in three.
Not to be outdone, Colorado saw another bright spot on the pitching mound as German Marquez made a two-inning start, while fellow projected starter Austin Gomber got in two innings of work and picked up the win.
It certainly was fun for Rockies’ fans to see Marquez on the bump after an injury sidelined him a year ago, while Gomber and he combined to fan five White Sox players.
Michael Toglia meanwhile, got the day off, and yet, the Rockies slugged two homers and six extra base hits, including a double from star shortstop Ezequiel Tovar.
Monday’s offensive explosion upped Colorado’s record to 4-1 this spring, while the Rockies are now batting a stellar .465 as a team.
The Rockies are right back in action on Tuesday as they visit the Kansas City Royals in Surprise, Arizona. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. M.S.T.
