The Rockies are currently on a six-game losing streak after falling to the Astros last night with a final score of 3-1.
Prior to the game, the team received some bad news: left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland was placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation. Freeland was scratched from his start Sunday afternoon against the Padres after feeling some discomfort.
The Colorado Rockies announced today the following transactions:
— Rockies Club Information (@RockiesClubInfo) April 15, 2026
-Reinstated LHP Jose Quintana from the 15-day injured list.
-Placed LHP Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 13 (left shoulder inflammation).
Quintana will make his second start of the…
Colorado made a corresponding move, reinstating Jose Quintana, who had suffered a hamstring injury. Quintana pitched in Tuesday night's loss, lasting just 3.2 innings. He gave up three runs on three hits, while walking four and striking out one.
It's disappointing, as Freeland was pitching exceptionally well, mirroring his 2018 season where he posted a 2.85 ERA over 33 games and achieving a 17-7 record. Kyle has made three starts for Colorado this season, logging 15.2 innings. He has allowed only four runs and four walks while striking out 13 batters, resulting in a 2.30 ERA.
Quintana will likely take his spot in the rotation until the left-hander returns.Â
The main question then becomes what will Colorado do when Freeland is back?
The Rockies are starting with an opener for Chase Dollander, a former top prospect, to ease him into the season and reduce pressure, allowing him to refine his mechanics and build confidence. So far, the approach seems effective, as the right-hander has 14 strikeouts in 13.2 innings with a 4.61 ERA.
Will they keep the veteran left-handed pitcher Quintana in the starting rotation, depending on his performance, or will they continue the plan in place for the hard throwing right-hander.
