The Colorado Rockies won a game on Sunday. If they win two more this week, that’s called a winning streak.
And a streak is something the Rockies would very much like to build as they welcome in the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game set at Coors Field.
Before Monday’s off-day, the Rockies snapped a six-game slide with a dominant win over the Athletics. That victory improved the Rockies’ rough start to 2-7 on the season. And that difficult start has been the result of two things plaguing Colorado right now. The first of which is driving in runs. Before Sunday’s win, the Rockies were batting just .207 as a team and were less than .200 in RISP. Slugging and WAR were way down, too. Sunday was a turnaround for the Rockies, but, it was just one game, and they’ll need to keep that momentum going.
At the plate, the Rockies have seen Hunter Goodman get off to a great start to his first full season in the big-leagues, while star SS Ezequiel Tovar is hot as well. Tovar is batting .282 with 11 hits and six for extra bases. But, overall, the team is still slumping, and combined, the Rockies have hit just six home runs this season, so that all has to get better.
Then there’s the bullpen. Other then Victor Vodnik and Seth Halvorsen, the Rockies’ pen has struggled mightily and Bud Black needs that to change in a hurry if the Rockies are going to start to climb back towards .500.
They’ll also hope some good weather at Coors Field will do the trick. On Tuesday, the Rockies will send out Kyle Freeland (0-1) for his third start and he’ll take on Freddy Peralta (0-1). Tuesday’s game will start at 6:40 p.m. M.D.T. Another 6:40 p.m. M.D.T. game is also set for Wednesday as Antonio Senzatela starts for Colorado, while Thursday’s game will feature Ryan Feltner starting for the Rox in what will be a 12:10 p.m. start at Coors Field.
The Rockies and manager Bud Black are hoping for plenty of success again the Brewers (5-5) because next weekend Colorado embarks on a six-game road swing through San Diego and Los Angeles.
