Coming into the draft, the best case scenario for the Colorado Rockies was if the near consensus top talent in the draft, Ethan Holliday, fell to them at fourth overall. Not only is he the player with the most upside in this draft class, but the family bloodlines with Rockies legend Matt Holliday being his dad.

Well, the top two picks were near complete surprises with underslot deals to Eli Willits and Tyler Bremner. The Mariners at #3 had their pick and went with arguably the best college arm available with LSU's Kade Anderson. That meant that Holliday was available at #4 and the Rockies didn't screw it up.

Aside from the bloodline narrative, Holliday is worth getting excited about. He has some of the best raw power in the entire draft class from the left side of the plate. While he doesn't look like he would move around well with his body type and he isn't particularly fast, there is a good chance that Holliday sticks at shortstop. Failing that, his arm is strong enough for third base and the combination of hit and power tools will play anywhere on the field.

After picking Charlie Condon last year followed by Holliday this year, Colorado has now gotten arguably the top offensive talents in the last two draft classes. Maybe there is hope for the Rockies after all, although it is on the organization to actually do something with the talent they have gotten.
