The Rockies are on what you'd call a losing streak after dropping their third-straight Cactus League game to NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
Reliever Jimmy Herget got the start for the Rockies Monday afternoon and made one mistake. He left a sinker right over the heart of the plate to Dalton Rushing, who crushed a 450-foot blast to center for a solo home run.
Herget pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk.
Mickey Moniak and Kyle Karros crushed back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off Dodgers right-hander Carson Hobbs, tying the game at three.
The Rockies gave up four home runs in today's loss as their bullpen continues to struggle. Four of the five Rockies relievers that came in each surrendered two runs while combining for two walks and four strikeouts.
Parker Mushinski was the only reliever to deliver a scoreless inning, recording a strikeout in the process.
News and notes from Colorado's 7-5 loss to Los Angeles.
- Jake McCarthy went 2-for-3 batting leadoff today, pushing his spring training average to .389.
- Jordan Beck and Hunter Goodman went a combined 0-for-7 with two strikeouts.
- Zac Veen showed impressive patience at the plate, drawing walks in both of his plate appearances while driving in a run.
- Troy Johnston, who is vying for a spot on Colorado's Opening Day roster, went 1-for-3 at the plate, including a sweet backhanded diving play that potentially saved some runs from scoring to end the top half of the second inning.
- Ryan Ritter continues to swing a hot bat. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, raising his average to .400.
The Rockies will take Tuesday off before jumping back into action Wednesday afternoon with an exhibition game against Team USA as they prepare for the World Baseball Classic. Kyle Freeland is expected to make his spring training debut in that matchup.
