When is it going to end? When are the Colorado Rockies going to start driving in runs?
In what was an electric debut for Rockies’ rookie Zac Veen, the Rockies were 0-for-8 with runner’s in scoring position in a 7-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Coors Field on a beautiful Tuesday night.
The loss spoiled Veen’s debut as he got a big-league hit in his first game since being called up on Sunday night. However, it wasn’t enough.

Rockies’ top starter Kyle Freeland had a rough outing as he gave up five runs and eight hits in what was his second loss of 2025. Freeland did have five strikeouts in six innings of work, but, his team was in a hole when he was pulled and the Rockies never pulled out of it.
Colorado fell to 2-8 on the young season, and will host the Brewers again Wednesday night at 6:40 M.D.T. when Antonio Senzatela faces Tyler Alexander.
Before Wednesday’s game, here’s three takes from Tuesday night’s rough night at Coors Field.
3. The Rockies are striking out way too much
Enough said. Colorado hitters K’d 14 times Monday night, with Michael Toglia and Jacob Stallings combining for half. Toglia’s slump is extremely worriesome, while as a team, the Rockies lead MLB in strikeout rate.
2. Freeland was all over the place
Speaking of strikeouts, Kyle Freeland has a bunch this season. And at times, he’s already looked like an all-star. But on Monday, he was tagged for five runs, all earned and eight hits, despite striking out five and no walks. Freeland’s helter skelter start to the season is a head scratcher for sure.
1. The outfield was the bright spot
Veen was exciting and recorded a hit in his debut. Mickey Moniak had a hit and three circus catches in left, and Brenton Doyle homered for the second time in three games. That’s a nice night from a young and exciting Colorado outfield. And that’s a lineup Bud Black should consider sticking with.
