The roster is set, the team is in Florida, and Opening Day 2025 is just 48 hours away. In other words, welcome to a new season of Colorado Rockies baseball.
And it’s an important season.
The Rockies won just 61 games a year ago, and haven’t had a winning season in five years now. And while few are picking the Rockies to have a winning season this year, it is important for Colorado to get better. It’s also very important that the Rockies continue to show their loyal fanbase that they’re trying to get better.
Whether or not the Rockies are doing either is still up for debate, and really can’t be measured until at least the All-Star Break. But for now, it’s incumbent upon the current roster of players to help the Rockies achieve those goals, especially the starters and veterans on the team.
So with that said, here’s a look at what Colorado’s starting lineup will likely be in Tampa on Friday when they open the season against the Rays.
Predicted Colorado Starting Lineup
1. Brenton Doyle, CF
2. Ezequiel Tovar, SS
3. Ryan McMahon, 3B
4. Kris Bryant, DH
5. Michael Toglia, 1B
6. Jordan Beck, LF
7. Nick Martini, RF
8. Kyle Farmer, 2B
9. Jacob Stallings, C
Early Thoughts: If Colorado’s lineup looks something like above, then a couple of things come to mind. First, Doyle needs to be Doyle and get on base a lot. From there, the Rockies have a lot of pop with Tovar, McMahon and Toglia. The big question then becomes, will Bryant finally produce? If he does, along with McMahon, then it will really set up Toglia for a huge season. Beck and Martini are also intriguing, because if they can get on track, and stay one track, then, the Rockies will have a lineup that can score some runs.
SP: Tyler Freeman
Closer: Seth Halvorsen
Early Thoughts: Freeman is making his third opening day start. How he pitches on Friday will matter, because if he does well, it could set the tone for a much-improved staff. Meanwhile, Black still hasn’t said who the closer is, but, a guess would be Halvorsen just based on what we’ve seen at the end of spring training. However, if Halvorsen, Victor Vodnik and Tyler Kinley all pitch well, the Rockies are going to be really good at closing out games.
