The Colorado Rockies will be very glad to say goodbye to April. That’s because the Rockies are about to finish one of the worst April’s in Major League Baseball history.

They say numbers don’t lie, and for the Rockies, April has been really, really bad.

The Rockies have lost 22 games going into the final day of the first full month of the season. They also won just three games heading into today’s home finale with the Atlanta Braves. Those numbers certainly put the Rockies in company they don’t want to be in.

The there wins equals a tie with the 2024 White Six, the 2022 Reds and 2003 Tigers. The worst April of all time belongs to the 1988 Baltimore Orioles, who went 1-22. And while the Rockies weren’t that bad in the first full month of the season, they might have well as been.

Besides the overall record, just how bad have the Rockies been? Offensively, Colorado is hitting .212 which is 28th in the league. The Rockies are also 21st in home runs, 27th in stolen bases and last in the league in run differential. They also lead MLB in strikeouts per nine innings and men left on base. And that’s just a few of the categories they’re struggling in.

Pitching isn’t any better, either. The Rockies are 30th in the league in Team ERA at 5.36. Colorado’s starters have also only won one game the entire season.

Yes, the numbers across the board are awful. Of course, the Rockies have also lost Ezequiel Tovar and Kris Bryant to injuries, they’ve had so many players called up and sent down that the roster looks nothing like it did a month ago.

So to say things are a mess in Colorado would be putting it mildly. Currently, the Rox are on an eight-game loosing streak, their second such streak of the season, and they now own the record for the worst overall start to the season by a team in the National League in modern baseball history.

Now that’s really bad.

Of course, there’s no telling if May will be any better, but, for now, the Rockies are certainly going to be glad to put April in their rearview mirror and who could blame them.
