It’s going to be cold in Denver when the Colorado Rockies return home too face the Washington Nationals this weekend. But maybe, just maybe, the Rockies’ offense is heating up.
Sure, Colorado lost its sixth straight game on Wednesday night, a 8-7 loss to the L.A. Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. But, it was certainly a step in the right direction as the Rockies scored the most runs they’ve seen in the last week.
After a disastrous first inning, the Rockies responded with Michael Toglia’s first homer run of the season, while Mickey Monica went yard for the second time this year. In all, Colorado had 11 hits and still left six men on base and struck out a crazy 16 times, they did finally have some run production, and that’s something that needs to continue.
Still, as positive as things were on Wednesday night, thew Rockies are still a terrible 3-15 to start the season. Colorado will have an off day on Thursday, and then they’re supposed to play the Nationals in three games starting Friday at Coors Field. There is bad weather in the forecast, so who knows what will happen, but, either way, the Rockies are done with their first west coast swing of the season.
Here’s three takeaways from Wednesday night’s game in L.A.
3. Kyle Farmer and Hunter Goodman keep on hitting
Farmer and Goodman have easily been the Rockies’ best offensive players through 18 games. Farmer had two more hits and an RBI Wednesday, while Goodman went 3-for-3 with a walk. If the rest of the Rockies could pick up the slack, they wouldn’t be where they are right now.

2. Starts have gotten worse
German Marquez didn’t even make it out of the first inning Wednesday. The Dodgers chased him after seven runs and two dingers. After a strong start to the season, unfortunately, these kinds of starts have become common for the Colorado rotation. They just aren’t getting quality starts and that’s going to hinder any type of turnaround as the season goes on.
1. Finally he hits one
Michael Toglia hit his first home run of the season and it was a grand slam. Sure, he also struck out three times, and who knows if things will get better, but, Rockies’ fans could at least breath a sigh of relief for one night.
