May is underway, and the Colorado Rockies are looking to get a new month off on the right foot. Despite winning on Friday, the Rockies just suffered through one of the worst April’s in Major League Baseball history, but April showers bring May flowers, and the Rockies are hoping for better days ahead.

Of course, things won’t be easy at the onset as the Rockies begin a four-game series at N/L/West Division rival San Francisco. The Giants were picked to finish fourth in the west but are currently 20-11 and in second place int he division heading into the home series against the Rockies.

Meanwhile, Colorado has spiraled out of control early, with a slumping offense, unreliable pitching and unfortunate injuries. All of that has added up to a disastrous start for Bud Black and the Rockies.

Having said that, there’s time to turn it all around. But, any type of improved play will have to come in May, and it starts in San Francisco. Tonight’s game pits Kyle Freeland against Justin Verlander with first pitch at 7:45 M.D.T. Neother Freeland nor Verlander have won a game this season, but both have pitched well, so Game One of the series could be a dual.

On Friday, Antonio Senzatela takes the hill for Colorado with a 1-4 record and he’ll face Robbie Ray in an 8:15 p.m. M.D.T. start. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2:05 p.m. M.D.T. and features Ryan Feltner, who is a hard-luck 0-2 on the season, taking on Jordan Hicks, while the final game in the series will be Sunday, also at 2:05 p.m. That game will see German Marquez take on Logan Webb, who has been really good for the surging Giants this season.

It will be a short road trip for the Rockies, as they come right back home to host Detroit and San Diego next week in a six-game home stand.
