March has arrived and that means spring training will really heat up. Opening Day is now just 28 days away for the Colorado Rockies, and we’ll be seeing plenty of what to expect in the regular season in the coming weeks.
As we get deeper into the Cactus League, it also means Rockies’ fans will be seeing more and more of the big-league everyday players, and that again, will help tell the tale of what to expect this season in Colorado.
Here’s five position players Rockies’ fans should be excited to watch in the next few weeks as spring training rolls on.
5. Zac Veen
Veen has been making waves at the plate this spring. Once thought of as a player who was surfely going to start the season the minor leagues, with less then a month until opening day, Veen is on the cusp of making the big league roster. The next two weeks will be crucial, and how much playing time he gets will be an indication of what Colorado’s plans for him are.
4. Ryan McMahon
McMahon is a lock at third base, but he’s also going to be a huge key to Colorado’s success this season. He’s played sparingly thus far, but as his reps ramp up, it will be exciting to see his progression, as Colorado really needs him to produce this season.
3. Brenton Doyle
The Rockies’ starting center fielder, he’s cemented in that position, so that’s not the issue. Like McMahon, the next few weeks of spring will be about just getting season-ready because Doyle, with his talent, could be an All-Star in the making, and he’s the catalyst of Colorado’s strong outfield.
2. Kris Bryant
The plan, according to Bud Black and the Rokies;’ brass, is for KB to have a full season at the plate, spending most days as Colorado’s fulltime DH. He’ll be sprinkled into the outfield on certain days and may even see some time at first base. So for now, Colorado is being careful with him because his health is of the utmost importance. However, Bryant can’t go into the regular season healthy, but really rusty. That doesn’t do any good for anyone. Soo, Bryant will get more playing time in the coming weeks, and that’s exciting.
1. Michael Toglia
The Rockies’ starting first basemen is poised for a huge season. The switch-hitting power-hitter, he’s certainly a potential 40 homer, 100 RBI guy. Yes, it’s OK to think Toglia is on the verge of that type of career, expecially playing every day in Coors Field. He’s had a huge spring thus far, and that’s why he’s the player Rockies’ fans should be moost excited to see over the next couple of weeks.
