It appears the Colorado Rockies just might have hit a spring training wall so to speak. For the second straight Cactus League game, the Rockies were dominated 8-1.
On Sunday in Peoria, the Rockies fell to the Seattle Mariners as Colorado’s pitching was rocked for the second straight outing. Entering the weekend, Colorado’s pitching staff was No. 2 in ERA in the Cactus League, but, they’ve given up 16 runs in the last two games.
Against the Mariners, starter Ryan Feltner got off to a good start, working just under four innings and striking out five. Feltner was the bright spot for Colorado though, as the bullpen gave up seven runs in the final four innings. The Mariners blasted three homeruns after Ciolorado led 1-0 when Nolan Jones drove in Ezequiel Tovar in the top of the fourth inning.
For the second straight game, the Rockies’ offense was stagnant, too. They touched up the Mariners for six hits, including a multi-hit game from Kyle Farmer. However, the Rockies left five runners on base, as they once again stalled late in the game.

After winning four in a row, Colorado has just two straight spring training games by a combined score of 16-2. What does that mean for the Rockies? Probably not too much. Manager Bud Black is continuing to evaluate players, and look at roster battles as the third week of spring training draws to a close.
Not to mention, if teams like the Rockies shouldn’t get too high with spring training wins, they shouldn’t get too low when they drop a couple games.
Colorado gets right back to Cactus League play when they visit the L.A. Angels Monday. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. in Tempe.
