Things aren’t getting better, they’re getting worse for the Colorado Rockies.

With just two games left in the first homestead of the regular season, the Rockies surrendered 17 runs to the Milwaukee Brewers in an embarrassing 17-2 loss Wednesday night. The Rockies fell 2-9 with the loss, and will close out the current Coors Field run with a game against the Brewers Thursday at 1:10 p.m. Ryan Feltner will try and stop the bleeding for the Rockies as he takes on Quinn Priester for the Brewers.

And hopefully, Feltner will have a better outing then the Rockies’ pitchers did on Wednesday night. The Brewers hit three homers, and scored their 17 runs off just 13 hits as they had a total of five extra base hits. It was another horrible showing by the Rockies’ pitching staff, while the offense wasn’t any better. Ryan McMahon did hit his second home run of the season, but in all, the Rockies had just eight hits and they were 1-for-8 with runner’s in scoring position, which continues to be a horrible stat for the Rox.

Now, Colorado will hope to do what they did on Sunday, which is salvage a win in a home series. Here’s three ways the Rockies can do just that.

3. Capitalize with their hot hitters

Though the Rockies’ offense his been really bad so far his season, players like Ezequiel Tovar, Hunter Goodman and Brenton Doyle have been crushing the ball, especially Tovar. So, that’s where the Rockies need to make their hay. Though Kris Bryant had a double on Wednesday, he and Michael Toglia have been slumping so bad, they keep getting moved down the order. No, it’s time to stop hoping they’ll step up and focus on the hitters who already are.

2. Steal some bases

The Rockies might want to try and steal third more often. Because they’re not getting runners in from second. It’s just a though, but, it’s time to try new things because offensively, things aren’t working the way they are.

1. Feltner needs a great start

Antonio Senzatela was horrible Wednesday night. He gave up nine runs in his third start of the season. If the Rockies are going to get out of Denver with a win on Thursday, Feltner needs to be really good. Colorado’s starters, including Feltner were really good the first week of the season. But since they returned to Denver, not so much. To win on Thursday, the Rockies need a lead for Feltner and get the game to Seth Halvorsen or Victor Vodnik to finish it.
