Just when it looked like the Colorado Rockies were going to rattle off yet another long losing streak, they snapped it against one of the best teams in baseball,.

On a beautiful Friday night at Coors Field, the Rockies ended their most recent losing streak with a 3-2 win over the vaunted New York Yankees. The victory was only Colorado’s sixth at home this season and the Rockies’ ninth overall.

Colorado got a great effort on the mound from Tanner Gordon, who pitched six innings and struck out five. The Rockies also got the go-ahead double from Ryan McMahon in the fifth inning.

Colorado’s pitching, with overcame Aaron Judge’s 17th  homer of the season, was perfect after Gordon left. Jake Bird, Seth Halvorson and Zach Agnos pitched three scoreless innings as Agnos got the save.

And while the Rockies still weren’t great, they did enough offensively. McMahon had the two RBIs and a run scored while Jordan Beck and Ezequiel Tovar each had two more hits on the night. McMahon, Tovar and Kyle Farmer all had doubles as well, as the Rockies won for the first time in over a week.

Colorado will play the Yankees again on Saturday as Kyle Freeland (0-6) takes on Max Fried (6-0) at 2:10 p.m. in Denver. The Rockies finish the homestead with the Yankees on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. when Antonio Senzatela starts for Colorado.
