The offense did its job for two nights. But San Francisco star pitcher Robby Ray said enough was enough Colorado Rockies.
A two-game winning streak by the Rockies came to an abrupt end on Friday night when the Giants shut out the Rox 4-0 in San Francisco. Ray went seven innings and allowed no runs on just two hits, while the Rockies could muster only three total hits on the night as the series is now tied at 1-1.
Not only was Colorado’s offense bad and Ray dominated, the Rockies also couldn’t overcome yet another shaky outing by a starting pitcher as Antonio Senzatela surrendered all four runs and seven hits in five innings. From there, the Rockies’ bullpen did its job, but it was too little too late.
The Rockies fell to 6-26 with the loss and will look to regroup when they meet the Giants again on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. M.D.T. Bradley Blalock will get the ball for Colorado.
Before Saturday’s game, here’s three takeaways from Friday night’s shutout at Oracle Park.
- The pen is coming alive
For yet another night, the Rockies’ bullpen was sensational. The Giants are one of the best hitting teams in the National League, yet, Jimmy Herget, Tyler Kinley and Juan Mejia allowed no runs and no hits in three innings of relief Friday night.

- The lineup is so different
Friday night was a prime example of where the Rockies are at with their roster. Sean Bouchard, Nick Martini, Jacob Salltings, Adeal Amador and Alan Trejo were all in action Friday night and none were starters on opening day, and Amador and Trejo weren’t even on the roster. It’s a wonder the Rockies are struggling so bad right now.
- Usual suspects keep hitting
While it’s been nice to see Brenton Doyle, Ryan McMahon and Michael Toglia get some hits, the last few weeks have been about Jordan Beck and Hunter Goodman and they had two of Colorado’s three hits on Friday night. Easily they are the Rockies’ best hitters right now, and it’s not really close.
