The Colorado Rockies were hoping to return to Denver on a hot streak. Instead they’re coming back to Coors Field on yet another losing skid.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rockies dropped their third straight game to the San Francisco Giants as they surrendered to bombs to Willy Adames in a 9-3 loss.

Adames homered twice in the first three innings, and while the Rockies answered in the fourth, the Giants tacked on more runs in their half of the fourth, and chased German Marquez from the game in what was his sixth straight loss.

The Rockies did manage 10 hits and Ryan McMahon and Mickey Moniak each had triples, but, they went just 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and struck out eight times, while leaving eight men on base.

With the loss, Colorado dipped to a Major League worst 6-28 on the season. The Rockies return to Coors for a homestand against the Tigers starting Tuesday night.

As Colorado get s a much needed off day, here’s three takes from Sunday’s loss as the Giants took three of four from the Rox.

  • Marquez is really off

It’s not just bad luck. German Marquez is in bad form. The Rockies were hoping to see Marquez become a dominant pitcher after injuries derailed last season. But despite still having plenty on his fastball, Marquez has been awful in most of his starts, and on Sunday he allowed five runs on six hits and the two homers, while striking out three.

  • Is Ryan McMahon coming around?

McMahon has taken a lot of criticism thus far, but he hit well in San Francisco, and on Sunday, he drove in a run and had a pair of extra base hits. Colorado needs a lot more of that.

  • Hunter Goodman has been really good

More than 30 games into the season, the jury isn’t out on Hunter Goodman anymore. He’s one of the best players on the roster, as he had two more hits on Sunday. He’s arguably Colorado’s best catcher, too, but no matter what, Bud Black can’t afford to keep him off the lineup card.
