After a much-needed off day, the Colorado Rockies are going right back into the fire. Having lost three straight to the San Francisco Giants over the weekend, the Rockies return to Coors Field where they’ll get no reprieve from what has been a horrid start.

Starting Tuesday, the Rockies host the Detroit Tigers (22-13) for a three-game inter-league set. The Tigers come to Denver sporting one of the best teams in the American League thus far, while the Rockies are having a historically bad start to the new season.

Colorado keeps hoping things will turn around, and the Rockies are hoping the Mile High City will help. But, that hasn’t been in the case so far. Instead, the Rockies are last in MLB in hitting, run differential and runs scored, and on the mound, they’re last in team ERA. This kinds of numbers have led to a 6-28 start as May 6 arrives.

Of course, hope always springs eternal and Rox fans will hope this week is the week.

The set with the Tigers starts at 6:40 p.m. M.D.T. Tuesday when Chase Dollander (2-3, 6.48 ERA) meets Jackson Jobe (2-0, 3.38 ERA). On Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. Kyle Freeland (0-4, 5.70 ERA) meets Case Size (5-1, 2.70 ERA), and on Thursday at 1:10 p.m, Antonio Senzatela (1-5, 5.50 ERA) faces Tarik Strubal (3-2, 2.21 ERA).

Playing the Tigers won’t be easy, but, the Rockies need to build some sort of momentum before the rival Padres arrive in Denver of the weekend.

Colorado and Detroit will take the field Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. M.D.T. however, Denver is expected to receive heavy rain on Tuesday, so the game with the Tigers is subject to change.
