The Colorado Rockies don’t hit a lot of home runs. But even when they do, it’s just a continuous struggle.

And despite a pair of dingers on Wednesday night in Arlington, Texas, the Rockies lost to the Rangers 8-3, suffering a series sweep in the process.

The loss dropped the Rockies to 7-36 overall and interim manager Warren Schaeffer is now off to an 0-3 start to his brief career.

Colorado also got another shaky start from pitcher Antonio Senzatela as the Rangers scored four runs in the first inning.

And while Michael Toglia hit a solo homer in the second inning and Kyle Farmer blasted a two-run job in the sixth, the Rockies couldn’t overcome another bad start.

Once again, the offense was brutal as the Rockies struck out 14 times. Only Toglia had a multi-hit game, while the Rockies were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

Colorado will now have a much-needed off day, but things won’t get any easier as the Rockies start a three-game series at Arizona on Friday night.

Here’s three takeaways from the Rockies loss to the Rangers on Wednesday night.

Starters struggle

Senzatela gave up six runs and eight hits on the night, and his ERA is now over seven. After yet another shaky outing, the Rockies’ team ERA has ballooned 6.73.

Changes?

If there are going to be changes under Schaeffer, we didn’t see them on Wednesday, or in the series at all. Colorado’s offense was yet again unproductive, and Rockies’ hitters are still striking out way too much.

Toglia coming along

After a brutal start at the plate, Toglia has slowly come around. Toglia hit his sixth homer on Wednesday and he’s now driven in 18 runs. He’s got a long way to go, but his production is on the rise and a far cry from where it was a month ago.
