Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers was pulled from Sunday’s series finale against the Chicago Cubs for what was later announced as a left hamstring strain.

Prior to Monday’s series opener at home against the San Francisco Giants, Rodgers and manager Bud Black provided an update on the injury to Rox Pile.

Colorado Rockies: Brendan Rodgers injury update

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers will be receiving an MRI on his left hamstring strain to determine the severity of the injury. However, neither Rodgers or Bud Black believe that it is a severe strain.

For the time being, Rodgers is listed as day-to-day. Currently, Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon has taken over at second base and corner infield prospect Elehuris Montero has taken over at third. That’s what happened on Sunday and against the Giants on Monday, McMahon is listed as the leadoff hitter and at second base in the starting lineup. Montero is at third and hitting sixth.

Rodgers has received a few more off-days in the month of September as he has had three this month before his injury on Saturday. However, since May 28 (the Saturday before Memorial Day), he has appeared in all but six games.

He has played in a total of 130 games this season, which is far more than his previous career-high as a professional player of 114 in the minor leagues in 2018.

On the season, Rodgers has hit .261/.319/.396 with 29 doubles, 11 home runs, 61 RBI, and an OPS+ of 90. Defensively, he has been one of the best players in baseball as he has 21 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS). That leads all of baseball and leads all NL second basemen by a wide margin.

However, the length of the MLB season has shown with Rodgers. In his last 27 games, he is only hitting .149/.252/.213 with no home runs and five RBI.

He doesn’t have much time to return and try to finish the season on a strong note as the club, including Monday, only has 16 games remaining.
