The Colorado Rockies have a few impending free agents on their team and last week, Rockies GM Bill Schmidt confirmed to Rox Pile that they were receiving a lot of interest in those players.
Fast forward a week later and it’s Trade Deadline Day and the Rockies are set to play a doubleheader in San Diego. They are still entertaining offers from clubs on those players but, in particular, they are receiving interest in starting pitcher Chad Kuhl and reliever Carlos Estévez, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Rockies pitchers Chad Kuhl, Carlos Estévez drawing trade interest
Both Rockies starting pitcher Chad Kuhl and reliever Carlos Estévez are drawing trade interest, according to Mark Feinsand. Kuhl and Estévez are free agents at the end of the season, as is shortstop José Iglesias and reliever Alex Colomé.
Jim Bowden of CBS Sports, The Athletic, and MLB Network Radio also reports that the club may trade Iglesias. However, he says that the club could call up Ezequiel Tovar. The simple fact of the matter is that Tovar is on the injured list in Double-A so he’s unlikely to be called up. However, as Bill Schmidt told Rox Pile earlier this week, the club has discussed doing that, but he has to be healthy.
“We’ve had talks (about calling Tovar up to the majors this season),” Schmidt told Rox Pile in an exclusive conversation. “First and foremost, he’s got to get healthy. He’s dealing with a situation that is keeping him off the field right now. He’s had a good year, he’s made tremendous progress but it doesn’t surprise me because I think he’s always been capable to be that type of player so we’ll assess what happens when he gets back on the field.”
The Padres have already made a few massive splashes as they have traded for Brewers closer Josh Hader, Nationals outfielder Juan Soto, and first baseman Josh Bell … and they may not be done.

The Colorado Rockies should use 7 starting pitchers. That’s right. 7
The Colorado Rockies have seen their starting pitching regress a lot in 2022 so they change things up and lean into the home/away splits.
