Tuesday is the MLB Trade Deadline so there are plenty of trade rumors being bandied about between the 30 MLB teams. Earlier this week, Colorado Rockies GM Bill Schmidt confirmed to Rox Pile that the club has been receiving trade interest on their impending free agents and that the club would entertain offers.

“We’ve got guys that will be free agents,” Schmidt exclusively told Rox Pile in Milwaukee. “There’s been (some teams) that have expressed some interest in some of our guys so we’ll see what happens.”

One of those impending free agents that is getting interest is closer Daniel Bard, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

There are “multiple teams” interested in Colorado Rockies closer Daniel Bard

Colorado Rockies closer Daniel Bard “could be one of the more impactful rentals” in the bullpen market, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and it’s easy to see why. Nearly every MLB team needs help in their bullpen, especially in the backend with a setup man or closer. Bard could do either and he has been excellent in the 2022 season.

In 37 games, he has 21 saves with a 1.91 ERA. He also has a 1.035 WHIP, a 3.55 FIP, and an average of 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings. The only real blemish on his line is his walk rate, which is a bit high at 4.5 per nine innings.

Bard is a free agent at the end of the season so the Rockies wouldn’t get a ton for him but they still could get some minor league prospects for him.

For example, the Royals traded All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi to the Yankees. They got three lower-level pitchers for him.

In addition to Bard, shortstop José Iglesias, starting pitcher Chad Kuhl, and fellow relievers Alex Colomé, Carlos Estévez, and Jhoulys Chacín (who’s currently on the 15-day IL) will be free agents so, perhaps, the Rockies will be active both as sellers (and maybe even buyers, like Schmidt told Rox Pile that they could be).
