As the Colorado Rockies prepared to open up a six-game homestand on Tuesday night, there was plenty of news on the injury front.

The latest Colorado Rockies injury news, including updates on Kris Bryant, Jose Iglesias, and Jhoulys Chacin

Let’s start with a pair of injuries that showed themselves for a pair of key Colorado Rockies during the post-All-Star Game series in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Kris Bryant missed Monday’s game against the Brewers with a foot injury that was reportedly examined by doctors and specialists on Tuesday in Denver. However, any worries about the foot injury turning into a long-term injury were quickly squashed as Bryant was inserted into the lineup on Tuesday as the designated hitter and batting third.

Bryant started the second half strong in the three games he did play in Milwaukee, going 4-for-14 at the plate, with three of those hits going for extra bases (two doubles and a home run).

UPDATE: Bryant told reporters after the game that he was dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, treating it by wearing inserts in his cleats and getting treatment.

“The good thing is, is that it usually feels bad when I’m doing something good on the field,” Bryant said. “The two good games I had in Milwaukee, I was running the base a lot and that’s when it really flared up. So that’s a little double-edged sword there, but you just have to keep going.”

Shortstop Jose Iglesias left the game on Monday in the early innings after fouling a ball off his foot. He was not in the starting lineup for Tuesday and his status moving forward is up in the air. However, the Rockies do not seem to think the injury is anything that will keep Iglesias out of the lineup on a long-term basis and he could well be back in the lineup for tomorrow’s matinee against the White Sox.

Garrett Hampson was slotted at shortstop on Tuesday night in the place of Iglesias.

One Rockies player heading to the injured list, however, is reliever Jhoulys Chacin, who was placed on the 15-day IL with toe sesamoiditis (defined as an inflammation of the sesamoid bones in the ball of the foot and the tendons they are embedded in). The move for Chacin is retroactive to July 23.

Taking Chacin’s place on the active roster is Justin Lawrence. This is the right-hander’s fifth stint on the active roster this season. He has pieced together a scoreless outing in 10 of his 15 appearances with the Rockies.
