On the most recent episode of the Rox Pile Rockies Report podcast, focusing on the Colorado Rockies, we break down the final few games before the All-Star Game break and what could be a very interesting roster decision lying ahead.

We talk pitching, roster construction, and trade rumors in our most recent Colorado Rockies podcast

With Antonio Senzatela making a strong start on Tuesday with Triple-A Albuquerque with one run and four hits scattered over five innings, the Colorado Rockies will have an interesting decision to make for the final start before the All-Star break on Sunday in the series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Will Senzatela draw the start and be activated off the injured list, or will Austin Gomber make the start and Senzatela stay on the injured list through the All-Star break?

The gut feeling is that Senzatela will be given the start, meaning the Rockies will need to make a corresponding move to have him on the active roster. Knowing the limit for pitchers for pitchers on active roster is set at 13, Senzatela’s appearance means another pitcher will be taken off the active roster. Will that be a reliever? Could a pitcher be designated for assignment? What about Jose Ureña, who has been making starts in Senzatela’s place in the rotation?

Colorado will have to make a move on Sunday if Senzatela comes back, and another move could come before the Rockies open the second half of the season in Milwaukee on Friday to counter that move. It could be a very fluid situation, so we will be keeping an eye on the transaction log.

Additionally, we talk about the return of Kris Bryant from the paternity list in time for Thursday’s game and the subsequent roster move sending Elehuris Montero back to Albuquerque. What will it take for him to earn some consistent at-bats at the Major League level?
