Colorado Rockies: What to know about the Nike City Connect uniforms

The Colorado Rockies have unveiled the new Nike City Connect uniforms, breaking away from their traditional primary color of purple to pay tribute to their home state with forest green dominating the new alternate jersey.

Here is what to know about the new Nike City Connect uniform that will be worn by the Colorado Rockies

The jersey is designed to look like Colorado’s iconic license plates, with the font of “Colorado” matching the font on the license plate and the numbers on the back of the jersey matching those found on Colorado license plates as well. Be sure to check out the zero that will be on the back of jerseys such as Bud Black and Tyler Kinley. That zero will stand out, just like the ones on the Colorado license plates.

Purple can also be found around the numbers on the back of the jersey and the Nike swoosh on the front. The well-known Colorado Rockies interlocking CR logo adorns one sleeve while the other carries a patch with double black diamonds (honoring the local ski and snowboard community), the number 5280 (representing Denver’s mile high altitude), and the latitude and longitude of Coors Field in downtown Denver. The jock tag near the lower left of the jersey front is the well-known “Welcome to Colorful Colorado” sign seen by so many drivers as they enter the state.

Solid forest green pants are offset by a white belt and one purple stripe running down the side of each leg. The Rockies logo on the hat and batting helmet has been replaced by a “CO” with mountains underneath it. The rings around the circular logo tie in with the “Colorful Colorado” sign.

Jim Kellogg, the vice president of community and retail operations for the Rockies, said the opportunity to have the Nike City Connect jerseys actually represent an entire state (they are the Colorado Rockies, after all) was a chance to show the world some of the amazing colors within the Centennial State.

“We wanted to tell the story of the evergreen as a part of colorful Colorado,” Kellogg said. “We’ve thought about the fans and our city, state, and region throughout this entire process. It’s who they are, and it’s who we are as a state. The outdoors and the people who enjoy them makes this state great and it was important for us to reflect that with these uniforms.”

The Rockies will wear the jersey for the first time on Saturday, June 4. Then, the next day, the Rockies will begin a season-long tradition of wearing the Nike City Connect jerseys every Sunday home game. Additionally, the uniform will be available should any Rockies pitcher choose to have the team wear it on the night he is pitching.
