The Hartford Yard Goats (the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) did not have a great week for a few reasons. They played the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (the Double-A team of the Toronto Blue Jays) and they only went 2-4 in the series after they had two rainouts and two doubleheaders.

Thus far on the season now, they are 4-5, which is third place in the six-team in the newly renamed Eastern League’s Northeast Division.

The Hartford Yard Goats had a tough week in New Hampshire

The Hartford Yard Goats had a rough week on most sides of the ball and the stats show it. Shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (the Colorado Rockies’ #6 overall prospect and their top prospect in Hartford) played well in the first series of the 2022 season (and his first Double-A series ever) but he came back to earth a bit in this series.

He only hit .176 in the New Hampshire series (3-for-17) with a double, an RBI, and two walks. However, he is still hitting .276/.400/.517 on the season.

Catcher Willie MacIver also had the same happen to him with the batting average. MacIver entered the series hitting .417 and a 1.250 OPS but he went 3-for-16 in the series. However, two of his three hits were homers so he has three homers and nine RBI in his first eight games. In this series, he also had three walks. Overall, he is hitting .286/.355/.679.

For the Goats overall, they are only hitting .225, which is 7th in the 12-team Eastern League. They have a team OPS of .731, which is 6th in the league.

As for the pitching, nearly all of their pitchers have struggled, including Noah Davis, who is on the club’s 40-man roster.

As a team, they have a 6.26 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP and an opponent batting average of .295. That opponent batting average is the worst in the league whereas the ERA is second-worst and the WHIP is fourth-worst.

After having an off day on Monday, they will return home to face the Somerset Patriots (the Double-A team of the New York Yankees) before they head back out on the road.
