On the latest Colorado Rockies-focused podcast from Rox Pile, we dive into some of the recent sentiments expressed by Rockies fans about various parts of the franchise, including the job turned in by manager Bud Black.

Let’s talk about manager Bud Black and the state of the Colorado Rockies on our latest podcast

Reviewing some of the data provided on the current state of the Colorado Rockies, from everything from the front office to the players to owner Dick Monfort, included in a fan survey published in The Athletic (subscription required), we focus on one of the few positives discussed in the article. That would be the job that manager Bud Black has done during his tenure with the team.

Whether the Rockies were postseason-bound or fighting to stay out of the National League West basement, Black has been a steadying force in the dugout and a key factor in Colorado’s young, homegrown rotation finding its way to becoming a strength of the team.

On a ranking from 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, 66.0 percent of respondents to The Athletic article graded Black as a manager with a 4 or 5. Only 5.2 percent rated him with a 2 or 1.

With so much going on within the franchise that has Rockies fans shaking their heads about the current and near-future states of the organization (54.9 percent of respondents said they had lost all confidence with the franchise), Black is definitely one of the positives in the eyes of fans. And, with Black sitting at 998 career wins heading into this season, it’s a testament to what he has done not only in Colorado, but during his time with the San Diego Padres as well.
