Colorado Rockies to play two Cactus League games in Las Vegas

As it turns out, Colorado Rockies fans in Las Vegas will have a special treat for Spring Training this year.
For the fourth time in Colorado Rockies history, the team will play a spring training game in Las Vegas when it takes the field at Las Vegas Ballpark on March 18 and 19, 2022.
The Colorado Rockies will play two of their Cactus League games for 2022 on March 18 and 19 against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Las Vegas Ballpark — home of the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
Tentative start times for the contests will be 7:05 p.m. (Mountain time) on Friday, March 18, and 2:05 p.m. (Mountain time) on Saturday, March 19.
“We’re looking forward to bringing Rockies baseball to Las Vegas and a fanbase that may not normally have the chance to see our club in person,” Rockies President/Chief Operating Officer Greg Feasel said in a news release from the club.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to come back to Las Vegas to showcase Major League Baseball, and we are excited that the Rockies have the opportunity to be part of this special event.”
Colorado’s pair of games with the D-backs will be a part of the Aviators’ “Big League Weekend,” one of two such weekends the Aviators will play host to this spring.
The two-game series will mark the fourth occasion — but the first time in 13 years — that the Rox have traveled to Las Vegas to play during Spring Training. Colorado’s last trip to Las Vegas was in 2009 (vs. the Seattle Mariners). The Rockies also played spring training contests in the Nevada city in 2003 (vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers) and in 2000 (vs. the Philadelphia Phillies and Oakland Athletics).
For Colorado, each contest against the Diamondbacks will be a split-squad affair. The Rox are scheduled to play the A’s on March 18 in Mesa and the Mariners on March 19 in Peoria.
