With the calendar turning to September, time is winding down this season for not only the Colorado Rockies, but their minor league affiliates as well.

Today, let’s take a look at one good thing that happened on Thursday for each of Colorado’s four highest minor league affiliates, including a pair of teams battling for a postseason berth.

News and notes from around the Colorado Rockies farm system

Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A)

Thursday result: Albuquerque improved to 45-57 on the season by holding on for a 7-6 win at Oklahoma City.

Highlight: Elehuris Montero, ranked fourth on the Colorado’s top prospect list, made his Triple-A debut and went 2-for-4 while starting at third base.

Hartford Yard Goats (Double-A)

Thursday result: Hartford dropped both games of a doubleheader (2-0 and 2-1) to Reading and fell to 35-67 for the year.

Highlight: In the opener, Karl Kauffman scattered six hits over six innings and allowed a pair of runs. It was his longest outing of the season.

Spokane Indians (High-A)

More from Colorado Rockies Prospects

Thursday result: Spokane stayed red hot, winning its 22nd game since the start of August with a 7-5 victory over Tri-City. After being 14.5 games out of first earlier in the season, the Indians are now tied for the top of the High-A West standings with a 59-46 record.

Note: In High-A West, the two teams with the best regular season winning percentage will compete in a best-of-5 postseason series.

Highlight: Hunter Stovall extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a first-inning single. The longest hitting streak in Spokane franchise history is 26 games, set by Smead Jolly in 1940.

Fresno Grizzlies (Low-A)

Thursday result: Despite losing their first-ever game in Stockton, the Fresno Grizzles (with a 68-37 record) still hold a three-game lead over San Jose for the best record in Low-A West and reduced their magic number for a playoff spot to six, thanks to a loss by Modesto.

Note: In Low-A West, the top two teams will meet in the postseason in a best-of-5 series. After Thursday’s action, that would be Fresno and San Jose, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Highlight: Second baseman Mateo Gil went 3-for-4 with an RBI to highlight Fresno’s offense in the 9-3 loss to Stockton.
