You may be able to take advantage of some great promotions for some Colorado Rockies bets before Opening Day.

A couple of weeks ago we dove into nearly every Colorado Rockies line I could find and tried to find some great lines to bet on. That was fun, but probably way too in-depth for most of you. And many of those player props aren’t available on apps you’re more familiar with like DraftKings and Fanduel (who are also offering some great promotions for Opening Day that we’re going to check out). But some of the other lines that involve Team Futures?

They’re widely available, so let’s break some down before the Rockies win 15 in a row out of the gate and you lose all the value you could’ve had:

Rockies Team Total for Wins

BetOnline.Ag: 27.5 (+100 Over/-130 Under)
Fanduel: 26.5 (-116 Over/-106 Under)
DraftKings: 26.5 (-118 Over/-106 Under)

When we last looked at these lines it was just DraftKings who was at 26.5 wins. Now Fanduel has dropped from 27.5 to 26.5 and BetOnline hasn’t budged, though the odds suggest people are betting the under right now. And if I was you, I’d hop on the over at either Fanduel or DraftKings so buy you that extra game.

Right now the PECOTA projections suggest the Rockies record will be 27-33. How accurate has PECOTA been? Well, like most things with the Rockies it’s been a bit off in recent years. In 2017 and 2018 it underestimated the Rockies by 11 and 13 wins while in 2019 it overestimated them by 14 wins. That’s about 7.8% of wiggle room we can play around with on average, which equates to about 4.7 games in a 60 game schedule.

If we round down (to be safe) that means a 4-game improvement would make the Rockies 31-29. That’s probably ambitious, but to say they’d outperform PECOTA by a win or two is very realistic. Now they could very easily go backward on that number too if they play like they did last season, but I believe they’ll rebound positively and could outperform PECOTA projections by a smidgen again.

Take the over at either Fanduel (-116) or DraftKings (-118).

Rockies National League Pennant Odds

BetOnline.Ag (+8000)
Fanduel (+8000)
Draftkings (+7000)

These odds of 80-to-1 actually hold more value than where they stood in February (50-to-1 then). Not like you would have been able to legally bet on that in Colorado in February, but because you had to wait you will actually win MORE money if the Rockies completely outperform everyone’s expectations.

Now do I think the Rockies will win the Pennant? Probably not. It’s going to be so rough trying to outpace the Dodgers and I have a hard time seeing them getting past a team like the Atlanta Braves. Against most other teams in the NL, I think they’d have a shot (given that they perform to their abilities), but it’s going to take a team effort on par with the 2018 season to see them get there. 2020 is likely going to be a completely random season, though, so stranger things can happen.

But if something unlikely is going to happen, wouldn’t you want some better odds for a better payout?

Rockies World Series Odds

BetOnline.Ag (+12500)
Fanduel (+16000)
DraftKings (+12500)

Now here’s where you wanna have some fun. The offseason plus quarantine has meant you’re getting a ton more value on this line. In October it was as low as 25-to-1. It jumped up to 100-to-1 in early February (did anything major happen with the Rockies between October and February?) and got as wide as 220-to-1 in some places (Fanduel right before the season resuming was announced). Now the odds with the best value are 160-to-1 at Fanduel and every Rockies fan should throw a little something on them.

Do I think they’re going to win the World Series? No. There’s no data that supports that and it’s going to take an incredible sequence of events to have this happen. But the shortened season is only going to increase variability and if the Rockies get hot at the right moment that may be all they (or anyone else) truly need. And it’s 2020. Things are only going to get stranger from here on out so why not, right?

Opening Day Promotions on DraftKings and Fanduel

One of the great things about betting on DraftKings and Fanduel is they’ve been very forward with enticing promotions, and if you find the right ones you can win some very easy money. Here are a few of the baseball-related ones you can find easily on both apps.

Fanduel

7th Inning Stretch Insurance

This promotion was practically made for the Rockies. Once you opt-in to the promotion, all you have to do is place a bet on the money line for any team on any game before the game starts. If the team you bet on is winning at the 7th inning stretch, but they blow the game after that and lose, you get your money back in the form of site credit.

So if you bet $25 on the Rockies to win Saturday, and they’re ahead 4-2 going into the bottom of the 7th after an awesome Jon Gray gem, but the ghosts of Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee haunt them and we lose 5-4, then you basically get your money back. The Rockies would never blow a late-game lead, now would they?

The promo’s good from July 23rd thru August 9th, so if you’re going to be placing money line bets on Fanduel just make sure to opt-in beforehand!

World Series Win Bonus

This one feels a little less favorable to me. You place a $50 bet on a team to win the World Series, and for every game, they win during their first 10 games you get $5 back in site credit. So if you bet $50 on the Rockies to win the World Series at +16000, and they go 5-5, you get $25 back in site credit. Not all that bad if the team you bet on gets off to a great start! But at the same time, I’d almost rather have the money line bet.

DraftKings

Opening Weekend HR Bonus

This one’s fairly simple: You place a $25 money line bet on either the Rockies or Rangers to win one of this weekend’s games and you get $5 back for each HR the team you bet on hits and it goes towards the free bet. So bet on the Rockies to win on Saturday, and they hit three HRs off Kluber, then you get a $15 free bet coming your way. Not all that shabby, but I’m likely avoiding this promo in favor of another DraftKings promo.

2019 All-Star HR Boost

Here’s where the money’s at. You opt into the promo and get +100 odds for any 2019 All-Star to hit a home run during their Opening Day games. The normal odds on DraftKings for something like this would be -10000. You get a max bet of $25. With the odds boost, your payout will be $50. In a normal situation, your payout would be $25.25. There are a total of 44 players that you need to hit a home run and not to be too forward, but all 44 players are pretty good. This is the easiest money you can make and while you can only throw down $25, it should be a really easy $25 for you to make. I’ve already opted in to this and I recommend you do too!

World Series Free Bet Bonus

This one’s pretty straight forward too: Place a $25 bet on any team to win the World Series (before the season starts) and get a $25 Free Bet to use on any Opening Day game. This isn’t all too shabby of a promo. And if you’re comfortable dropping $25 on the Rockies at +12500 anyways, might as well use that $25 free bet on an Opening Day game and see what happens! I’m likely sitting this one out since I’m already invested in the All-Star HR Boost, but this won’t be a bad promo to opt into.

So there you go! A few fun promos to opt into if you’re wanting to have a little extra fun over Opening Day Weekend. I personally recommend the All-Star HR Bonus as it’s the easiest money to make on this list, but either the Fanduel 7th Inning Stretch Insurance or the DraftKings World Series Free Bet would be the other promos I’d consider.

Have fun this Opening Day Weekend, be smart about your bets, and good luck!
