Once again, as happens every offseason, the Colorado Rockies find themselves trying to improve their team through free agent acquisitions.

Every year about this time, the Colorado Rockies check the free agent market to see which players could make the team better in the upcoming season. Coming off back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time in franchise history, what the Rockies do this offseason could be a “make or break” moment as Colorado is not only working toward a return to the postseason, but also capturing its first-ever National League West title.

There are plenty of rumors about who the Rockies are pursuing in free agency and we’re tracking all of those here. However, while we’re focused on the present and the future of the Rockies so often, we wanted to take a look back in this article at the best free agent signings the Rockies have made in franchise history.

Some of the best players in Colorado history have come through free agency. Of course, there have also been plenty of misses, including on the pitching front with names such as Denny Neagle and Mike Hampton. One of Colorado’s biggest recent free agent signings, Ian Desmond, is still being weighed with three years left on his deal.
