Jeff Hoffman

Jeff Hoffman has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Rockies, but he’s still just 25.  Hoffman’s big league results have been mixed.  A cursory glance at his career ERA in the majors would give the impression of a guy who was in over his head.

However, he has at times shown the ability to shut down opposing lineups.  During a stretch of 5 starts in 2017, Hoffman went 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and twice threw 7 innings of 1 run ball.

If called upon, Hoffman is another guy who could fill a need either in the rotation or the bullpen for the Rockies down the stretch run.

Peter Lambert

Rockies fans would be thrilled to see the team’s top pitching prospect get a taste of Major League Baseball, but it is uncertain whether the club thinks the 21-year-old is ready to be thrown into a big league game.

Lambert cruised to a 2.23 ERA in 15 starts for Double-A Hartford, but has been less effective since earning a promotion to Triple-A.  Most notably, his strikeout rate has dropped to 5.1.

It is possible that the Rockies will want to wait to call up Lambert until he produces more consistent Triple-A results.
