If you have a reliever who is available, it is very possible that the Colorado Rockies are interested as the 2018 trade deadline draws ever closer.

While the Colorado Rockies are in St. Louis to open a four-game series against the Cardinals tonight at Busch Stadium, it appears that the Rockies and Cardinals are being linked in another way as well. It is being reported that the Rockies have inquired about St. Louis closer Bud Norris, adding another potential piece to its already stacked bullpen.

The 33-year-old right-hander is 3-3 with a 3.14 ERA this season and has posted 20 saves. That follows a 19-save season with the Los Angeles Angels last year, marking the only saves of his professional career.

Norris began his 10-year career as a starter and has still started more games (188) than he has appeared in as a reliever (147). He has previously pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, so he is very familiar with the National League West.

He will be a free agent at the end of the season and is still owed approximately $1 million, making him an inexpensive pick-up for any team at the trade deadline.

It is an interesting time for the Cardinals, who have just in recent days started advertising their players might be available. Entering Monday’s game, the Cardinals are 53-52 and in fourth place in the National League Central. St. Louis fired Mike Matheny just before the All-Star break as the Cardinals season has not gone as anticipated.

Colorado has already made a splash in the reliever market, acquiring Seunghwan Oh from the Toronto Blue Jays last week. They have also been linked to other relievers, including Greg Holland, who was designated for assignment by the Cardinals last week.
