After a record-setting bullpen spending spree in the offseason, it looks like the Colorado Rockies could be very close to adding another reliever as the trade deadline draws near.

According to a tweet Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Colorado Rockies are “close” to acquiring Seunghwan Oh from the Toronto Blue Jays. The native of Korea is 4-3 this season with a 2.68 in 47 innings covering 48 games. During that span, he has struck out 55 batters.

As a side note, our own Jake Shapiro predicted this was a move that the Rockies should make earlier in the week in his podcast.

This is the third season the 36-year-old right-hander has been in Major League Baseball. He has a career ERA of 2.81 during stints with the Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals.

Oh would join a bullpen anchored by Adam Ottavino, who is having an All-Star-caliber season, and Wade Davis, who has 28 saves but faltered late in Colorado’s 8-2 extra-inning loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night at Coors Field.

Colorado general manager Jeff Bridich acquired Bryan Shaw and Davis in the offseason and extended Jake McGee to form a “super bullpen.” However, McGee and Shaw have struggled this season, as has Chris Rusin, who had a tremendous 2017 season but has had control and health issues this season.

Oh signed a one-year, $2 million deal this season with Toronto and has a team option in 2019.

As has been discussed, the Rockies are looking to acquire a reliever who can be the “bridge” between Colorado’s recently dominant rotation and the bullpen that soaked up so many resources in the offseason. Oh would fit that role.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first trade between the Blue Jays and Rockies. Saturday marks the three-year anniversary of the deal that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto in exchange for Jeff Hoffman, Jesus Tinoco, Miguel Castro and another player.
