You knew they were gonna hit…

The Rockies are hitting, folks! On Friday night, the Rockies had 10 hits in a Zack Greinke start and nine hits the next night, including two homers from Trevor Story and a wicked blast over the center-field wall by DJ LeMahieu. They only managed six hits on Sunday, but Zack Godley’s always had the Rockies’ number.

It’s encouraging to see guys step up when the Rockies’ top-of-the-order stars have a rough series. Nolan Arenado struggled from the plate, going 1-for-12, but we saw multi-hit games from the likes of Gerardo Parra, Noel Cuevas and Ian Desmond.

Story was terrific throughout the series (along with his highlight-reel defense), going 7-for-12 with three home runs to bring his season total to 15.

In the last 14 days (not including Sunday’s game), the Rockies are second in baseball in both runs (79) and OPS (0.848). They are also first in batting average with a 0.301 percentage. They are finally getting a healthy number of extra base hits, including 26 doubles and five triples. And while the 17 home runs in that timeframe is just 10th in baseball, the Rockies aren’t relying on solo-shot homers to score runs.

The Rockies’ offense is putting the team in a position to win on a nightly basis. Which makes the bullpen’s struggles even more aggravating.
