Trade Proposal: Greg Bird to Colorado Rockies

Who New York will get: Ian Desmond, Mike Tauchman, other minor leaguers, possible draft spot

Here’s why: One thing the Rockies need right now is a first baseman. They aren’t going to be signing Mark Reynolds anytime soon so they should entertain this trade idea. Ironically Greg Bird went to high school in Colorado so it’d be a little homecoming.

As for who New York gets, you’ll probably be seeing Ian Desmond in just about all of them as I want to free up the payroll. Mike Tauchman is due to the aging left and center fielder the Yankees have and a “gift” for taking Desmond.

The one detail I see right away with Bird is his potential. I love he’s 25, still young and would fit right in with this youth movement in Colorado.

Bird also had a lot of postseason game experience as well, which is something to think about. During the AL postseason, he hit three home runs, logged six RBI, and drew 12 walks. A guy who can do that in just the postseason is someone the Rockies need.
