Jeff Bridich and the Colorado Rockies had a busy start to the offseason, signing a trio of relievers to replenish the bullpen, but have remained relatively quiet since. If they want to stay in contention for the playoffs in the National League, they must acquire an impact bat to give the offense a boost.

The catcher is one of the most important positions on the diamond. He must have a thorough game-plan on how to attack each opposing hitter, as well as know every one of his own pitchers inside and out. He must be able to provide all this and contribute at the plate offensively as well.

The Rockies are in a pickle. The catcher position is where the Rockies are the weakest right now, and that must change before Opening Day. Early in the offseason, they did bring back former backstop Chris Iannetta, who played with the club from 2006-2011 before being dealt to the Angels, on a two-year/$8 million deal. This likely won’t be enough, though.

Not taking anything away from Iannetta, who had a solid 2017 season playing in Arizona. He hit .254/.354/.511 with 17 home runs and 43 RBI in 89 games with the Diamondbacks. At this stage of his career, though, Iannetta likely won’t be able to hit well enough to justify him starting almost everyday.
