Colorado Rockies: Rockies owner Richard Monfort discusses fans, Lucroy, and Coors Field

Today, Colorado Rockies owner Richard Monfort wrote a letter to Rockies season ticket holders and he had some interesting things to say about the state of the Rockies currently and the future.

Richard Monfort wrote a letter to all season ticket holders and one of the first things that he mentioned in his lengthy letter (h/t to Eric Garcia McKinley of Purple Row) was about fans at Coors Field. Monfort said:

"So often at Coors Field, I heard from our players, coaches, and staff about the incredible fans we have here at Coors Field. I’ll never forget the comment [that] Jonathan Lucroy made soon after joining the team mid-season: ‘What a fan base! They rev us up!’ Night in and night out, you showed up and cheered our team on, and we all thank you for your devotion."

Interestingly enough, the only player mentioned in Monfort’s letter was Lucroy (let the conspiracy theories begin).

Monfort on Coors Field changes

One of the things that he mentioned in his letter is about changes to Coors Field that will be seen at the beginning of the Rockies’ 25th anniversary. They will feature a brand new scoreboard, an improved sound system, and upgraded bar and concession stands on the Club level.

We reported these changes a few weeks ago in this article. The scoreboard will be a whopping 258% larger than the scoreboard.

Monfort on ticket pricing

Monfort mentioned that one of the unfortunate things that will be happening in 2018 is “instituting a modest price increase”. However, the Rockies are still one of the lowest in all of baseball.

Monfort said that they hope to use this to sign and retain players that will help get the Rockies further along in the postseason.

For season ticket pricing, the percentage increases are all between about 4.5 and 9.6 percent so the increases are not ghastly but increases nonetheless.

Final Thoughts

As we noted in this article from a week ago, the Rockies have a lot of money coming off the books. With the increase in ticket pricing and the money already coming off the books, it could lead the Rockies to making some splashes this off season.
