The Colorado Rockies come back home with what many thought would be a daunting road trip with four games against the Dodgers and four with the Arizona Diamondbacks by going 6-2. However, the Rockies two losses were in the last two games when they got poor starting pitching. They come back to Denver to face the San Diego Padres for three games this weekend.

The Rockies come home for a very brief three game home stand to face the San Diego Padres in three games this weekend. Here are some things to pay attention to during the series.

The Wild Card Lead

Both the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are 2 1/2 games back of the Rockies for the second wild card so the Rockies have built a little bit of a cushion. This weekend, the Brewers will be facing the Marlins and the Cardinals will be facing the Cubs so the Rockies should have an opportunity to build their lead.

The Rockies are also 8-4 against the Padres this year so that is a good sign.

The Padres offense

The Padres offense is the worst is baseball. They are last in average, last in on-base percentage, and second-to-last in OPS (which is on-base percentage and slugging percentage added together).

They only have two players on their current roster that have an OPS+ of 100 or more (league average): Jose Pirela (who has been on the mend for the past two days with a sprained finger and he’s still day-to-day) and Wil Myers. Myers is the only Padre with more than 58 RBI so he is really the only power threat in their lineup.
