Carlos Gonzalez was not in the starting lineup for the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night as they continued a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers at Coors Field.

Gonzalez, who was a late scratch from Monday’s game with a sore left ankle, was one of four Rockies players on the bench to begin Tuesday’s interleague action. However, Colorado manager Bud Black indicated to Rox Pile and other media members that CarGo could see action on Tuesday as the game wore on.

"“CarGo is doing better. He came in today feeling much better. He went some therapy with the medical staff and he’s feeling better,” Black said. “I think he is going to be able to contribute tonight in some fashion.”"

Black said a lot could be determined by how the 31-year-old Gonzalez responded to pregame warmups. However, he added that he was, “pretty confident that CarGo is going to be OK.”

Gonzalez told Rox Pile and other media members after Monday’s loss to the Tigers that he expected to play in the game but his ankle didn’t respond the closer it crept to game time.

You know, we did treatment and I thought [that] I was going to be able to play through it but it was a different story when I put [on] my cleats.”"

With Gonzalez out of the article, Ian Desmond, Charlie Blackmon and Gerardo Parra will continue to receive the bulk of playing time in the outfield. On Monday night, Desmond just returned from his second trip to the disabled list just in time to take CarGo’s place in the lineup.

Gonzalez entered the series against Detroit batting .238 with eight homers and 40 RBI. Since July 18, he has hit safely in 25 of his last 22 games.
