On Tuesday, the Tigers have Michael Fulmer scheduled to start. The 2016 AL Rookie of the Year has only made three starts since returning from the disabled list with an elbow injury. He claimed that he had a flare up with the elbow in his last start on Thursday when he hit Gary Sanchez, which later started the fights between the two clubs.
Since returning from the DL, he is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA. He has had two bad starts (his first and third) but his second start against the Dodgers was excellent as he went seven innings while only allowing three hits, one unearned run, and two walks.
Barring any unforeseen elbow flare ups again, Fulmer will be starting the game.
Fulmer is scheduled to face Rockies starter German Marquez. He is 10-5 with a 4.18 ERA. However, in his past three starts, he is 1-1 with a 6.19 ERA and a .324 opponent batting average.
On Wednesday, Justin Verlander is scheduled to start for the Tigers. He has done very well in August as in five starts, he has only had one start in which he went less than seven innings allowing more than six hits and two earned runs. In the past two starts, he is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA. In 15 innings, he has only allowed eight hits, three runs, three walks, 17 strikeouts, and a .157 opponent batting average.
He will be facing Chad Bettis. He is 0-1 with a 3.79 ERA. He struggled in last start against the Braves, he struggled as he allowed five runs in five innings but he only allowed three runs in 14 innings combined in his previous two starts. If he pitches like how he did in his first two starts, we could be in for a pitcher’s duel (meaning, since I said that, it will be a 10-10 game in the 5th inning).
