Colorado Rockies: May 1 Minor League Report and Prospect Update
AAA Albuquerque Isotopes (11-12, Fourth in PCL-Pacific Southern)
The Isotopes used 36 runs to post a 3-2 record over the past week. The three wins were high-scoring affairs while the two losses where one-run games. As the big club as shown this April, grinding out one-run games can make the difference between, say, first or fourth place in a division.
The highest note of the week came on Friday night when top pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman threw his first gem of the year. After failing to live up to high expectations this spring, Hoffman, and the organization, badly needed a solid start from the righty. Thanks to rhythmic tweaks to his delivery, Hoffman tossed seven scoreless, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. The stellar performance was Hoffman’s first win this year and lowered his ERA from above 5.00 to 3.86. Consistency is now the only thing standing in Hoffman’s way to the big leagues.
In other notable news, outfielders Raimel Tapia and Noel Cuevas continue to rake. Tapia collected 11 hits in 18 at-bats this week, including three doubles and two triples. On the other hand, Cuevas started the week hot going 5-for-11 before an 0-for-4 performance cooled in off.
In other news, veteran reliever C.C. Lee recorded two wins this week and is the owner of a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched.

AA Hartford Yard Goats (8-12, Fifth in Eastern League – Eastern)
Hartford went 2-2 this past week, with two rain-outs. Three out of the four contests for Hartford this week were decided by one run, losing two of the affairs. Hartford’s pitching staff had a fantastic week as they yielded only eight runs in the four games.

Rising star Yency Almonte continues to impress. In his lone start, Almonte throw six innings, surrendering one earned on five hits and three walks. Almonte sits at 2-0 on the season with a sparkling 1.52 ERA.
Almonte’s gem wasn’t even the best of the week for Hartford. Jack Wynkoop steals the spotlight with his eight scoreless innings performance last Monday.
The Yard Goat offensive didn’t do much better than the opposition, mustering just 12 runs on the week. The good news is that top prospect Ryan McMahon continued to punish Double-A pitching. Ryan went 5-for-16 on the week with a dinger. Teammate Drew Weeks did his part as he cashed in a 5-for-15 week himself.

4/30/17 – Hartford Yard Goats placed LHP Austin Wright on the restricted list.
4/30/17 – C Elvin Soto assigned to Hartford Yard Goats from Grand Junction Rockies.
Advanced-A Lancaster JetHawks (11-13, Second in California League – South)
Lancaster posted a 4-3 week, scoring an astounding 51 times. The best news from this week is that Rockies’ top prospect and MLB.com’s #13 overall prospect Brendan Rodgers made his 2017 debut. So far, Rodgers is 8-for-25 in six games played, with three doubles and four RBI. Rodgers’ best performance came on Friday night when he went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Cather Hamlet Marte had the best individual week. In just three games played, Marte collected six hits, two home runs (one of which was a walk-off), and five RBI in 14 at-bats. Marte is now hitting .400 in 9 games played in 2017.
On the pitching side of things, starter Craig Schlitter threw six innings of one-run ball this week. As a result, Schlitter sits at a 1.50 ERA in 24 innings this season.
A 2015 second-round draftee, Peter Lambert scuffled this week as he surrendered 10 earned runs in 11 innings. On a positive note for Lambert, he did strike out a career-high 10 batters in a April 24th loss.
Also notable is the performance of right-fielder Yonathan Daza. Daza went 8-for-20 on the week and now has a .415 average over his last 10 games.
Transactions:
4/24/17 – Lancaster JetHawks activated SS Brendan Rodgers from the 7-day disabled list.
4/30/17 – RHP Jesus Tinoco assigned to Lancaster JetHawks.
A Asheville Tourists (11-14, Fifth in South Atlantic League – Southern)
Losers of three straight, Asheville managed to go just 2-5 over the last week. The brightest spots over the past week have been starting pitchers Alejandro Requena and Antonio Santos. Specifically, Requena turned in a eight-inning scoreless gem (but got roughed up for four earned runs later in the week). As for Santos, he went six scoreless frames in his only start of the week.

Santos has posted a 1.80 ERA over five starts. In those five starts, Santos when six innings each time out. Despite a less-than-desirable start on Sunday, Requena owns a 1.48 ERA on the year.
In other news, outfielder Willie Abreu collected six hits over the week, including a grand slam.
Additionally, shortstop Jose Gomez went 12-for-26 over the week. Gomez is hitting .419 over his last 10 games.
Top prospect Riley Pint threw three scoreless innings and struck out three over the week. The fact that Pint has thrown just 14.2 innings over four starts suggested the Rockies front office is taking it very slow with Pint as they gradually aim to build endurance.
Finally, reliever J.D. Hammer continued his great 2017 campaign, logging 4.1 more scoreless innings over the week. Hammer has 0.00 ERA in 12.2 total innings.
4/27/17 – RHP Mike Bunal assigned to Asheville Tourists from Boise Hawks.
4/27/17 – Asheville Tourists placed RHP Brandon Gold on the 7-day disabled list.
