AAA Albuquerque Isotopes (11-12, Fourth in PCL-Pacific Southern)

The Isotopes used 36 runs to post a 3-2 record over the past week. The three wins were high-scoring affairs while the two losses where one-run games. As the big club as shown this April, grinding out one-run games can make the difference between, say, first or fourth place in a division.

The highest note of the week came on Friday night when top pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman threw his first gem of the year. After failing to live up to high expectations this spring, Hoffman, and the organization, badly needed a solid start from the righty. Thanks to rhythmic tweaks to his delivery, Hoffman tossed seven scoreless, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. The stellar performance was Hoffman’s first win this year and lowered his ERA from above 5.00 to 3.86. Consistency is now the only thing standing in Hoffman’s way to the big leagues.

In other notable news, outfielders Raimel Tapia and Noel Cuevas continue to rake. Tapia collected 11 hits in 18 at-bats this week, including three doubles and two triples. On the other hand, Cuevas started the week hot going 5-for-11 before an 0-for-4 performance cooled in off.

In other news, veteran reliever C.C. Lee recorded two wins this week and is the owner of a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched.
