Tonight is the night that the Colorado Rockies and their fans have been waiting on for quite some time.

Later this evening on the MLB Network, Major League Baseball will prepare to see the next generation of stars, potential stars, and players who never reach their potential as the 2016 MLB Draft gets underway. In this year’s draft, the Colorado Rockies have the fourth and 38th overall picks.

We’ve taken a look at who we think the Rockies (and the three teams ahead of them) will select tonight in our three previous mock drafts (you can look at Version 3 here) … but the board keeps changing and the possibilities keep shuffling themselves, even as we approach selection time.

Adding intrigue to the mix is the fact that it’s still a question mark who the Philadelphia Phillies will take with the overall No. 1 pick. Many still believe that it will be pitcher A.J. Puk out of the University of Florida … but there are plenty of options on the table for the Phillies.

Who the Phillies take with their selection will cause a ripple effect for the rest of the teams. It will be interesting to see which direction the Phillies go … and how the other teams fall after that.

Working with our fellow FanSided editors (and looking at other predictions from around the web), here’s our latest and last predictions on who will be the newest member of the Colorado Rockies tonight.

In Versions 1 and 2, with the fourth overall pick, we said that California high schooler Mickey Moniak would fall to the Rockies. If that were to happen, the Rockies would gladly welcome him into the fold. However, in Version 3, we discussed how the Atlanta Braves make it seem very clear that they are also interested in Moniak and will take him with the third pick.

Knowing that, will the Rockies go with an outfielder or pick a pitcher as they have done so often in the past? After all, the third pick in the 2013 draft, Jon Gray, has turned into a nice selection for the Rockies. With high schoolers Jason Groome and Riley Pint possibly available, will Colorado go with another young gun for the mound?

Maybe … but there are also some very gifted outfielders out there. College outfielders like Kyle Lewis of Mercer and Corey Ray of Louisville have extra years of experience and abilities at the plate that are making scouts see visions of potential greatness in their heads.

So which way will the Rockies lean tonight? How will the first three picks ahead of Colorado shake out? Here is our final prediction…

1. Philadelphia — A.J. Puk, LHP, Florida

2. Cincinnati — Nick Senzel, IF, Tennessee

3. Atlanta — Mickey Moniak, OF, California HS

4. Colorado — Kyle Lewis, OF, Mercer

5. Milwaukee — Corey Ray, OF, Louisville

We detailed a lot about Lewis in our Version 3 of the draft and you can read it here. We think his experience will tip the scales in his favor with the Rockies … and give the Rockies a player who can make an impact sooner than later.

Here’s to what will be a very interesting night ahead. We’ll have a look at Colorado’s selection not long after it’s made, so check back with Rox Pile tonight for information on the latest members of the Colorado Rockies.
