Colorado Rockies’ free agent targets?

(via MLB Trade Rumors)

The Colorado Rockies may not be in the market for any major free agents this winter, because they usually aren’t in the market for major free agents, so I read this MLB Trade Rumors post very casually the other day.

But there is one name that stood out on that list:

"10.  Mike Leake.  Leake’s hold on this spot has grown more tenuous, as the righty spent a few weeks on the DL with a hamstring injury.  Leake still has a shot at a five-year deal, as he doesn’t turn 28 until November."

Our staff writer Connor Farrell loves Mike Leake; he really wants the Rockies to make a play for the former Cincinnati Reds’ starter as some kind of third-ish starter as the rotation develops.

We’ll see if he commands too much money to price the Rockies out of contention for his services, since starting pitchers come at such a high price on the free agent market this week. But, he might be the kind of free-agent-pretty-decent starter (read: not Kyle Kendrick) that would be a smart pick-up for Colorado.
