Your morning rundown — news, notes, analysis, and more — on the biggest stories surrounding the Colorado Rockies for this Sunday, September 13, 2015.

More from Colorado Rockies News

The Colorado Rockies are getting ever closer to the end of the season (thank you, baseball gods…). They ain’t there yet, though, so we’ve still got more news to cover just like we’ve been doing.

Today is a very light news day, though — it’s a lazy Sunday with a team miles out of the postseason, after all — so let’s get into it. Here’s what’s going down in today’s edition of the rundown:

  • More people said very nice things about Nolan Arenado.
  • A writer has some very good thoughts about how to rebuild the Colorado Rockies.
  • The Colorado Rockies Fantasy Camp is here!
  • Speaking of fantasy, there’s some Rockies fantasy news for 2016 for those of you interested.

Not a ton going on this morning, but let’s cover today’s news and notes around the Colorado Rockies.

Nice things about Nolan Arenado

(via Twitter)

This, via ESPN’s Buster Olney, is a nice thing:

I guess I’d be interested to know who the evaluator is, but it really doesn’t matter; Nolan Arenado is very good at baseball. He’s being compared to Brooks Robinson there, so, I mean, yeah. That’s not a joke.

Click through and read some of the replies Buster got for that tweet, though. People take their baseball seriously, man. Like, if you said to me “Josh Donaldson is better than Nolan Arenado,” I’d be like, “OK, cool story bro.” I’m not going to attack you on Twitter for a perfectly justifiable opinion.

Donaldson, Manny Machado, David Wright, Arenado, there are a lot of really, really good third basemen at various stages of their career in this league right now. Make your case for the best! That’s great! But taking offense when a longtime evaluator makes their case seems… desperate? Desperate.

Re-building the Colorado Rockies

(via Rox Walk Off Part One, and Part Two)

I had a nice Twitter conversation with Steve Carpenter, a writer for Rox Walk Off, earlier on Saturday. We talked about the Colorado Rockies, and rebuilding, and the future ‘n stuff. But that’s not what this is about — rather, it’s about Carpenter’s rebuilding plans.

These are worth a read… part one, from May, and part two, from this week. There’s a great mix of common sense baseball in there, combined with some really good original ideas and a good overview and analysis of what the Colorado Rockies should do if they want to win soon.

I have a few minor quibbles with a few of Steve’s points (I’d like to see Nick Hundley return, for one, as well as have the Rox consider Bud Black or even Jason Giambi — !! — for a future managerial role). But overall he has a concise, straight-to-the-point and smart analysis of the Rox there, and it’s more than worth a shout-out.

I have to admit I wasn’t familiar with Rox Walk Off until Saturday, so I will certainly have to begin reading them consistently from now on, and you probably should, too. (Er, well, you know, read them only AFTER you’ve read everything on this website… three times.)

Colorado Rockies fantasy camp!

(via ColoradoRockies.com)

So this is a fun thing. Colorado Rockies Fantasy Camp is taking place at the end of January 2016, and I swear to God I will be going to one of these before my life is over.

That’s partly because of this dude, who was at the Rockies’ fantasy camp last year:

Lew!!! That moment went “viral” as the kids say, but if Lew had done that to me when I was on the mound, well, let’s put it this way… Lew would not be retuning to Fantasy Camp in 2016. AMIRITE, GUYS?! GUYS???? Guys? …….guys?

Like I said up top, slow news day.

Fantasy baseball news for 2016

(via ESPN – $)

I am fearful that I cannot accurately describe in the next few paragraphs the intense and profound depths to which I absolutely do not care about your fantasy baseball team or anyone else’s fantasy baseball team. Like, not even a little bit. No, not even yours. And certainly not yours.

Fantasy baseball is a colossal waste of time (some would say writing about the Colorado Rockies in general is a colossal waste of time, and those people….. are right). But, because I genuinely like you people, I include this link for you on this fine Sunday morning.

Newsflash: ESPN believes the middle infield will be a question mark for the Colorado Rockies in 2016, and that it might affect your fantasy team. Gee, ya think?!

I don’t know, is this too snarky? It’s probably too snarky. I just can’t bring myself to give one iota of interest towards anybody’s fake fantasy baseball team. I already watch too much irrelevant baseball (heyooo! Rockies joke!) to waste more time on more make-believe than I already do. But hey, that’s just me.
