The Colorado Rockies’ California League-affiliated Modesto Nuts play in a challenging environment — at least for pitchers — which we’ve discussed before in this weekly segment. But they’ve also got a good ball club overall; many of the 2015 Nuts were members of the 2014 Asheville Tourists, a club that won the South Atlantic League Championship in full-season low class A baseball.
The last week (7-0): Congratulations to the Modesto Nuts! Since we’ve been doing the weekly minor league updates this season, I do believe this is the very first week we’ve ever been able to have a team go undefeated and write about it! The Nuts won all seven games this week, they’ve actually won eight straight altogether, and they’ve won 10 of their last 11 games. Everything is clicking in the Central Valley!
Overall, the Nuts have surged up to 56-46 on the year, but still find themselves six games out of first place in the California League’s North Division, behind the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Visalia Rawhide affiliate.
